Bosch ME17.8.5 vs. MG1CA920 – What's Inside Your BRP Engine Control Unit?
Anyone diving deeper into the diagnosis or tuning of their BRP vehicle will eventually come across two designations: Bosch ME17.8.5 and Bosch MG1CA920. These are the engine control units (ECUs) used across BRP's vehicle lineup – including Sea-Doo personal watercraft, Can-Am Ryker, Can-Am Spyder, and Can-Am Canyon. Knowing which ECU is in your vehicle tells you exactly what's possible with M-JET FLASHER products.
What Is an ECU?
The Engine Control Unit is the electronic brain of your BRP vehicle. It manages fuel injection, ignition timing, throttle position, boost pressure, and many more parameters. It also stores fault codes whenever sensors or actuators operate outside their tolerance ranges. M-JET DIAGNOSTIC reads these fault codes directly via Bluetooth to your smartphone – on all BRP vehicles, regardless of whether they run the ME17.8.5 or the MG1CA920.
Bosch ME17.8.5 – The Proven ECU Platform
The Bosch ME17.8.5 is a well-established ECU platform used across a wide range of BRP vehicles – including Sea-Doo Spark, GTI, GTX, Wake, RXP-X and RXT-X 300 models, as well as older Can-Am models. The "ME" in the name stands for "Motronic Engine" – a fully electronic engine management system by Bosch.

Bosch MG1CA920 – The Next-Generation ECU
The Bosch MG1CA920 is the newer ECU generation found in more recent BRP models – including all Sea-Doo 325 HP models (RXP-X 325, RXT-X 325, GTX Limited 325) as well as newer Can-Am Ryker, Spyder, and Canyon models.
