The iDF system was designed by BRP for the stock performance of the respective models. As soon as a Sea-Doo receives more power as part of a Stage 1 or Stage 2 tuning, the forces acting on the iDF gearbox when switching pump direction also increase noticeably.
In practice, this means that components that function reliably over their entire service life in stock condition are significantly stressed much faster with higher performance. Many owners of tuned vehicles report that iDF-related defects occur after comparatively few operating hours, much earlier than in identical stock vehicles.
In addition, a defect in the iDF system is often more difficult to pinpoint after tuning, as symptoms can overlap with other tuning-related error messages. Anyone who has modified their vehicle's performance or plans to do so should therefore consider the iDF system as a potential weak point from the outset.
