Misfires are tricky because they often occur only sporadically. With the ignition coil cut-off feature of the M-JET DIAGNOSTIC you can narrow such problems down to a single cylinder.
What ignition coil cut-off does
The function deliberately deactivates the ignition of one cylinder. From the engine's reaction, you can tell whether the relevant ignition coil and its cylinder are working normally.
Coil or injector?
Combined with injector cut-off, you cleanly separate two causes: if the engine reacts when the injection is cut but not when the ignition is cut, the suspicion leans towards the ignition side, and vice versa. This is how you systematically zero in on the component.
How to proceed
- Let the engine run at idle
- Switch off the ignition of one cylinder in the service section
- Observe the rpm and running behavior
- Compare with the other cylinders
For diagnostic purposes only
Ignition coil cut-off is intended purely for troubleshooting and should always be carried out only briefly. Make sure the onboard voltage is stable, for Sea-Doo vehicles for example with the M-JET CTEK charging adapter.
For the whole Rotax family
Whether Sea-Doo, Ski-Doo, Lynx or a jet boat with a BRP Rotax engine: the function works the same way everywhere.
Conclusion
With ignition coil cut-off in the M-JET DIAGNOSTIC you can find even hard-to-catch ignition problems, precisely and without expensive guesswork.
