An iDF failure in most Sea-Doo models does not announce itself overnight. Owners usually report a gradual deterioration over several rides before the system completely refuses to work.
A first warning sign is a hesitant or delayed response when the iDF button is pressed. Instead of an immediate change in drive direction, the system reacts sluggishly or only on every second or third attempt. Unusual noises from the pump area when activated are also considered a sign of incipient mechanical wear in the gearbox.
